Will I make it?

Lilli Pilli is growing. Faster than I thought it would. Getting up at 6am to watch the Olympics has given me a lot of time to knit.
The orange locking stitch marker marks 50 stripes. This section will be 100 stripes - I have 36 to go. Then 50 rows of lace and I'm finished. I'm on schedule to finish before the end of the Olympics. On schedule should be underlined in that sentence. Will I make it?

Beth and I spent time with dad today. We decided to clean out his cupboards for the Food Drive. Thanks dad. We found lots. You will need to go grocery shopping soon :)

Here is dad getting Lucy ready for a walk. First the harness. It's like wrestling a calf.

Someone was very tired this evening. Her body is on the couch and her front legs are on the floor. She is one weird dog.

Knitting Baskets

I have walked by the Atenti booth at TNNA for years. For some reason I went and had a look when I was at the show in Vegas. Their Hope Baskets are great. I've placed an order and we should see them by the end of March.

Family owned Atenti is based in Los Angeles and manufactures its bags and accessories in the U.S.A. The Atenti line features innovative fabrics and embellishments from all over the world; from textile mills in the United States. Italy Spain and Argentina to laces and buttons from France and Great Britain. Atenti bags are known for exciting blends of color, texture and pattern.
I hope you had a good Family Day. I was up early (before 6) to watch the Olympics. At 9 I went back to bed and woke up at 2. I guess I needed some sleep. Beth and I made dad dinner and lost money to him at cards. I'm quickly tidying the house because the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow. Then I'll be able to knit. 18 stripes and then the lace.

A limited supply of Addi FlexiFlips arrived today. We have 2.25mm. More sizes will be coming but I don't know when. We have ordered them in sizes 2mm-5mm.
Cast-on to an effortless new method of knitting socks, cuffs, hats, and many of other projects which are worked in the round, with the addi® FlexiFlips. Made specifically for North America, these specially designed 21cm circulars (3.5" tips with 1" cord) rest comfortably in the hand, and act as flexible double pointed needles. Easy to use, stitches are simply distributed over two needles, and then knit with the third - resulting in only two needle changes per row.
Featuring the same dual-tip design as the popular addi® FlipStix, the FlexiFlips feature both an addi® Rocket tip and an addi Turbo® tip. You will always have the right needle, when you need it. Overly versatile, FlexiFlips also make great cable needles.
We also have a limited supply of FlipStix.
Fabricated from high-grade aluminum, these colorful ultra-lightweight wonders feature dual tips (each needle features both a Turbo tip and a Lace tip for added flexibility of use)
These needles are 6" in length. We have 2.25mm and 2.75mm. 2.5mm will be coming soon.

Playing with Colour

Mr. Canada Post brought in a big box from Freia Fibers this morning.
There were 2 balls of Shawl Ball for the Food Drive baskets. One ball of Ember and one ball of River. Thank you Tina!
The new colours are amazing.
Orchid is a lavish saturated purple that fades into a rich amethyst, light soft pink and palest of silvers. I think this is one of the best purples we've ever done, eminently wearable for all skin tones, soft, feminine yet strong.
Our second new color this season is Point Reyes, an homage to a local shoreline here in the San Francisco Area. This lovely color starts with a deep steely blue, into a midnight blue/black, then charcoal and linen. A truly unisex color with universal appeal.
I showed Cathy's Non Troppo (pattern purchased on Ravelry) last week.
This perfect wrap for coolish summer evenings is knitted on the bias, generous, asymmetrical, striped – and has both textural playfulness and flair.
Choose somber or wild colours as you please and settle into some soothingly simple knitting.
non troppo just could be the perfect commuter or read-while-you’re-knitting knit – nothing complicated is going on (and goes on for quite a while).
I put together some colour combinations this morning.
Rowan Kidsilk Haze 582 (you need 3 balls) and Freia Merino Lace Pt. Reyes (you need one ball)
678 and Orchid
 579 and Flare
Lynn was inspired by Cathy's shawl and is making one for herself.

A customer and I had a few conversations this morning about colours for Squared - the new poncho pattern from Hedgehog (free on Ravelry)

These colours are very close to the colours in the picture. The customer isn't a pastel person so I made a few changes.
I like how these go together. Oh no, not another new project :)

Lynda emailed me a picture this afternoon. The Colorburst Baby Blanket is blocking and it should be in the store next week. Perfect timing - the yarn should be here at the same time.
Hey dad - what's in the bag? I'm hungry!!

Before midnight last night I cast off Lilli Pilli. I made it. With lots of time to spare. Now my goal is to finish Kimba before the closing ceremonies. 4 rows to go.
Pattern: Lilli Pilli (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: tosh sock - I used By Far, Harvest and Penumbra

The shawl was a joy to knit. The stripes are mindless - perfect for knitting in the car or while waiting for your kids. The lace section was easy to follow. Every wrong side row is purled. I call it a resting row. I would definitely recommend this pattern for your first shawl.

It is in need of blocking so I will get more pictures after that is finished.

Stripe Study is almost finished. Alex will be casting it off tonight. The colours are amazing! The main colour is Pt. Reyes, a new colour of Freia Shawl Ball. You need two balls of this colour. The contrast colour is tosh merino light in the colour oak. You need one skein for this.

Alex is also working on the Beginners Brioche Scarf (pattern purchased on Ravelry). She knits most of her projects in fingering weight and wanted something quick. This is on 9mm needles. She is using 2 balls of Freia Bulky in Cloud and 2 skeins of ASAP in Scout.

Now it's bed time. Last night we were up until the end of the hockey game. My body needs more sleep than I have been getting since the Olympics started.

Another Finished Project

Four finished projects already this year. I cast off Kimba tonight. It took a bit of time - 458 stitches. I love how the colours came out. Now the blocking.

Pattern: Kimba (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: Hedgehog Skinny Singles - 1 skein each of Raku, Cereal, Wildcard and Hurricane

Our next Hedgehog order should be on it's way to us early next week.

I came home from work early to have a nap. Getting up early and staying up late to watch the Olympics hit me today. I was up super early this morning (3:30) because dad, Beth and Lucy were heading to Myrtle Beach. I was in charge of making sure that Beth got up and out the door. I didn't do a good job of it. She took her truck keys with her and forgot her pretzels. I also filled their cooler bag for the trip. Buns with meat, chips, muffins, cookies..
Even with a truck full of food you still need to stop for a treat. It is a ritual to drop in at the same Dairy Queen on the way (and the way back too). Lucy loves ice cream. She and my dad are quite a pair.

They made it safely and are happy to be warm. Myrtle Beach is having unseasonably warm weather.

Now I need to decide what I'm going to work on next. Finish something else or start something new??

Done and Blocked

Alex has been busy since Thursday. She cast off Stripe Study and blocked it. Oh my goodness. The colours are amazing.

We used 2 balls of Freia Shawl Ball in the new colour Pt. Reyes. We are almost out of this colour - I made an phone call to Tina at Freia yesterday begging for more. Luckily she had some dyed because Tina is moving her study and we won't be able to get any yarn until May. We have 16 balls on the way and should see them by the beginning of March.

On Monday I'm going to make up some different colour combinations. I might need the shawl with Orchid as the main colour.

Alex blocked Lilli Pilli for me. We were busy in the store today and I didn't get to try it on. It's hanging nicely on a mannequin. It grew nicely with the blocking - I'm happy with the size.

I took Starting Point out this morning and my goal is to have it finished by next weekend. When it's finished I get to start something new. I'm waiting for the new shipment from Hedgehog.

Starting Point

It's been a knitting day and I think I will make my goal of finishing Starting Point by next weekend.
This amazing wrap is worked from both ends towards the centre with a super fun chevron construction, and joined as you work (no seaming or kitchener required!).
You start the shawl by working two identical pieces. I finished my second piece this morning and now they are joined. I'm working both sides at the same time because I'm worried about running out of the multi-coloured beige (that I'm working with now) and the purple which comes almost at the end. I don't think I would be happy to finish one side and then realize that the second side couldn't match.

The rows are getting shorter and shorter which means that they are going faster and faster.
It's almost bed time so I had better get this posted. Here is the join with a few more rows.

Someone is tired. Dad had her at the Bark Park this morning. Some of her friends were there so she was busy running around. It was 28C in Myrtle Beach today. Lucy isn't used to the heat. And she's pretty lazy :)

Rainbow

Lynda finished the Colorburst Blanket. I didn't get it until after work so I laid it out on the dining room table. It looks amazing!
Bursting with color, this blanket was designed for Wonderland Yarns So Fond of Rainbows 20-skein Mini Skein Pack. Follow the rainbow, or mix it up for a striping effect. Solids, multis, minis, whatever you use: the shape is as sweet as the striping, so have fun!
Not just for baby, this circular blanket could also be a lap blanket or decorative throw.
We have a few last minute items on the way to us for the Food Drive.

-A shipment should be leaving Hedgehog Fibres this week and they are sending a skein for each basket. They won't make it here in time for when we draw the winners on Monday. We will hold the baskets until the yarn arrives.
-There are Lykke needles on the way
-Lorna's Laces is sending something for each basket

We just received
 A book for each basket.
A ball of sock yarn for each basket.
There are 3 kits from Rowan that I will be dividing between the baskets. Big Wool, Superwash Worsted and Kidsilk Haze.

We will be making up the baskets tomorrow with what we have so far. I have cute baskets (thanks Dalia) to put them in.

Now back to Starting Point. There hasn't been much knitting since last night's picture. I'm giving myself an hour tonight and then bed.

New Colours

Ms. UPS brought in two boxes from Mrs. Crosby and Lorna's Laces this morning. The new colours are awesome!

Carina's Afterglow is beautiful. We have it in Shepherd Sport for Cold Roses. We also have it in Solemate.

The new colours from Mrs. Crosby are really nice. What do I want to make??
Prance, Saunter, Traipse and Jaunt. Satchel is the base that I chose for my pictures. This is a single-ply, 100% wool fingering weight yarn.

I put together some colour combinations.
Saunter, African Grey, Wild Huckleberry
Jaunt, Hosta Blue, Great Tailed Grackle
 Jaunt, Creme Fraiche, Saunter
 Creme Fraiche, Prance, French Chambray
Creme Fraiche, Traipse, French Chambray

There were 3 kits for the Food Drive

So I stayed up later than I had planned last night because I had to see how the new colour was going to play.
I'm at the twisted rib. And not knit one through the back loop, purl one. This is knit through the back loop and purl through the back loop. It is so slow making it the one part of the shawl that I really dislike. It looks good but I can't do it quickly.

Someone had fun playing in the yard this morning.

One of a Kind

I ordered some interesting yarn baskets yesterday. They should be in the store a week Friday - March 9.
These baskets are one of a kind. We might be able to get the same colour again but there is no guarantee.
The pricing is going to depend on the shipping charges but I'm guessing the large basket on the left is going to be around $225. It is large - Christine at Aalta Yarns told me that it will easily hold 10-100gram skeins. It is a basket to sit beside your knitting chair. The smaller baskets are great for carrying around projects.
They are a sturdy and stylish storage solution, or an elegant way to take your knitting on the go.

We have a new fingering weight from Urth Yarns called Harvest Fingering.
The Harvest range is composed of 23 wonderfully rich hues with a signature earthy feel. Naturally hand dyed using roots, fruits, and nuts, harvest is the perfect base to incorporate additional variegated shades or beautiful on its own.
Not all the colours arrived but we are hoping to see them soon. Because the yarns are naturally dyed, some colours can be hard to get. There can also be colour variation between shipments. More rain one year or no rain can change the colour of the dyes. More sun on one side of the field can cause the dyes to be different.

There wasn't a lot of knitting last night. Four rows. I spent time updating the website, starting on this blog post, a bit of accounting and I needed to work on a Hedgehog order. They are going to be dying my next order soon which is good news because we are out of colours that aren't in the shipment that should be here any day. I also had to make a trip to the grocery store. Ancaster Community Services posted that they were in desperate need for food for their food bank. The back of the Edge was full.

Beth is flying home from Myrtle Beach tonight so I'm driving to Niagara Falls to pick her up. We'll get home just in time to watch the season premiere of Survivor. I should get some knitting accomplished then.

It looks like winter is coming back for a visit. A possible 10-20cm of snow tomorrow night. YUCK. If we get as much as they say then the store could open a bit late on Friday morning. I could be digging out.

Kimba is blocked with all the ends sewn in. I'm very happy with the finished shawl. If I were to make the shawl again, I would change the needle that you start with. The first section is all garter stitch and I would go down one needle size for it. Then I would go to the size that the pattern asks for when doing the lace section.

Knitting Fever has donated 3 Lykke 3.5" Interchangeable Needle Sets for the Food Drive Gift Baskets. Oh my goodness. This is amazing!

I did get a bit of knitting accomplished while watching Survivor last night. It's not the easiest to photograph right now. It is huge!

I was just tracking some packages online and it looks like the new baskets as well as our madelinetosh order will be arriving tomorrow afternoon. Or they should be. It will depend on the weather.

Speaking of the weather. As of 6:30 there wasn't a snowflake to be seen. Now it's crazy out there.
We'll be shovelling before bed.

Diana stopped by this afternoon with her almost project. She is making Brickless (pattern purchased on Ravelry) with one ball of Girandola.

It will be blocked tomorrow and we'll have it in the store next week.

Diana used 3.75mm needles. She started on 4mm but found that it was too flimsy.

I'm very happy with how the yarn knit up and how it feels around your neck.
The new colours of tosh merino light are amazing. Two large boxes arrived today.

The baskets arrived today as well. I had different pictures for the blog and then someone bought that basket so I picked a different one.

The colour of this basket is a pale pink with a touch of grey.

I wanted to show how big it is - I threw in 2 skeins of tosh dk.
12 skeins and there is still room for more.

This is the small Apple Green. It has 5 skeins of yarn with lots of room left for more.

I ordered needle sets today that will be arriving in May. Perfect for sock knitters! This will be our first time carrying Chiaogoo Needles. I have heard great things about them and I know this is a must have.
TWIST "SHORTIES" Interchangeable system contains both 2" (5cm) and 3" (8cm) tips allowing knitters to make short circulars 9" (23cm) through 14" (36cm) long, including differential circulars!

A must have kit for sock knitters! In fact, we would be surprised if your customers haven't already been asking about TWIST "SHORTIES".

12 different sets of stainless steel lace tips in sizes  2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3, and 3.25mm (US 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3) are included with the set. The tips are solid and have a tightening hole near the threads. This set comes in a compact, red nylon, zippered case and includes a tip sleeve that securely holds all 12 sets of tips. Also included are end stoppers, stitch markers, an adorable mini needle gauge and three different length cables, 5" (13cm), 6" (15cm) and 8" (20cm).
I finished Starting Point after dinner. Pictures tomorrow. Then my blocking whiz will finish it for me (I hope she says yes when I ask her). That's four finished projects so far this year. You know what that means - I get to start something new. An order arrived today from Prism and a kit came home with me.

Three Winners

Mr. Canada Post delivered a big box from Prism Yarns yesterday morning. Triple Treat is a new kit. A bit of sparkle but not too much.

There is enough yarn in the kit to make one of the great shawls.

Radiant Petite Madison - 73% merino, 7% cashmere, 10% silk, 10% sparkle
Shimmerati - 65% merino, 35% silk with sequins
Petite Madison - 75% merino, 15% cashmere, 10% silk
Laura Bryant (the owner of Prism Yarns) put together fabulous colour combinations for us. There are 9 different colourways available. Here are three.

I wanted a bit of fun so this is the shawl that I started last night. It is mitred squares mixing Stuff with Symphony.
It's fun to work on 5.5mm needles after using 3.5mm, 3.75mm or 4mm for the last four projects.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Food Drive. We raised $1225 plus a lot of food - the back seat of Beth's truck was full.

Mrs. Lukas was a teacher at Ancaster High when we went there and she is a committee member for the Food Drive. This is the text that Beth send after giving her the envelope of money and the food.

This is what the room looked like when Beth got there. Not a lot of food in each category.

There are a lot of people working inside to sort the food. Beth felt very safe, she said that there was at least 20 police officers in full uniform helping.

Thank you again to those who donated. And thank you to all my suppliers for their generous gifts.

One of my suppliers, Estelle Yarns, is having a contest. Here's your chance to win some pretty Urth Yarn to make the Butterfly shawl.
The Papillon Shawl calls for a fingering weight yarn with a long colour transition and we think Urth Yarns Uneek Fingering is the perfect fit! Each and every skein of Uneek Fingering is truly a work of art with its rich, vibrant colours, its earthy feel, and the exceptional softness in every skein. This outstanding 100% Superwash Extrafine Merino has sensational hand and comes in a true kaleidoscope of colours.
Pattern: Butterfly / Papillon (purchased on Ravelry)

Read how to enter on their blog...

We have a sample hanging in the store and the shawl is beautiful.

I promised pictures of Starting Point. There are a few ends to sew in. I was sure that I was going to run out of yarn but I made it.

I've been knitting on my Prism Shawl. Mitred squares are fun. There could have been more knitting today but I did a bit of cleaning. All the bedding has been washed. Mr. Roko is fine but he had a small accident today and ripped one of his dew claws. We had blood everywhere. Beth took him to the emergency vet and they cleaned it up and put a bandage on him. While they were gone I washed the floors. Unfortunately the blood went through the bandage and I had to wash part of the floor again. It's all good - he's sleeping like a baby right now. Once I hit Publish I'm sitting down with a tea and picking up the needles.

We have a new yarn from Trendsetter - Recycled Linen Handpaint. The colours make me think of spring.

84% Recycled Linen
16% Linen

135m/150 yarns on a 50 gram hank
24 stitches = 4" on 3.25mm needles.

I am flying down to Myrtle Beach to see my dad on Wednesday so I might take a few skeins with me. Right now I'm thinking an easy, lacy scarf. Nurmilintu might be the answer. It is a free pattern on Ravelry...

The yarn is handpainted by Lorna Miser who was the original owner of Lorna's Laces.

We received an order of Addi FlexiFlips with a small quantity of each size.

I have a lot more on order and as they are available my supplier will be shipping to me.

New colours of tosh dk arrived on Friday so I played with combinations for the Comfort Fade Cardi (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

Beneath the Waves
Moonstone
Heuchera
Fate

I'm torn. I love the purple but the denim is calling me as well.
Aura

Antique Moonstone

Now I need to play with the Linen. Lynn rolled a ball for me before we closed the store.

Diana finished Brickless (pattern purchased on Ravelry). She steam blocked the shawl and it grew slightly. I really like it this long (I wrapped it twice around the mannequin). If you don't want the length, you can finish whenever you want. Keep in mind that it will grow a bit.

The yarn is Girandola from Louisa Harding and we suggest 3.75mm for the shawl.
Linda finished her Find Your Fade. I WANT!!! She used Hedgehog Skinny Singles.

Dragonfly
Wish
Dragonfly (it's the same colour but the skeins were so different that it looks like two different colours)
Truffle
Vengeance
Hurricane
Raven

I think that I want to combine some of these colours with Raku - a new colour from our last shipment. The next shipment should be leaving Ireland any day and there are Potlucks which might work as well.

I've ordered interpretations Volume 5 and it should be in the store early next week.
Interpretations Vol. 5 is a special anniversary collaboration between Joji Locatelli and Veera Välimäki. Once again these best friends from opposite sides of the world created 12 wonderful patterns for you to enjoy.

Tree Seeker is one of the amazing patterns in the book. See them all...

I received an update today on the yarn for the Gradient Lapghan. It is supposed to arrive in Toronto today. My supplier will need to unpack it all and then repack to ship. My guess is that we won't see it until Monday or Tuesday. The yarn has been added to the website. I have a feeling there won't be time when I'm in Myrtle Beach to be playing with the website.
The four grey tones are not in the shipment. They will be arriving by the end of March. Don't worry. You won't need these until June.

The new Hand Painted Linen from Trendsetter is really nice to knit with. It has a sheen and feels closer to cotton than linen. It is super soft in your hands. I decided to go with a 4mm needle. Nurmilintu is super simple and would make for great car knitting. It'll perfect for the plane ride.

LYS Day

Saturday April 21 is LYS Day.
Local Yarn Store Day is a brick-and-mortar yarn shop appreciation day created by TNNA Yarn Group. The inaugural LYS Day will take place on April 21 and is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to drive awareness and celebrate the craft.
We are coming up with some ideas for April 21. Mark your calendar and plan a road trip.

We have a great kit from Trendsetter. We have agreed that we will not sell the kit before April 21. You can reserve one or two and pick them up that day.
I saw the shawl in person at TNNA and really liked it. The yarn is a cotton acrylic blend in fun colours.
There are 2 different colour options.

There are 4 different colours in a kit.

The shawl takes 2 kits. The vest takes 2 or 3 kits depending on the size.

I would love to start selling the kit now (in the store and online) but LYS Day is an initiative to get customers out to their local yarn shop. After April 21 we can ship the kit out. If there are any left we will be taking them to the Frolic.

My flight doesn't arrive in Myrtle Beach until 9pm so I'm blogging early (it's actually Tuesday as I am writing this). I can't wait to see dad but I'm even more excited to see Lucy. I've missed her.

I've started a To Do list for Beth on the new chalk board wall. She goes in and out that door every day. How much do you want to bet that she forgets to do this?

That is very unkind (but very true) - Beth

I just talked with Steffi from Uschitita. We are hoping to see our next order in April. Maybe in time for LYS Day and if not then for the Frolic. I've asked her to include these colours. I'll remind her at the beginning of April - they are amazing!

I will blog as much as I can. I know that there are some shipments arriving while I'm gone.

The Regia Kinda Magic Sock Yarn arrived this morning.

I've gone through my check list.

Hello from Myrtle Beach

Dad and I (and Lucy) had a great day. Breakfast out. A bit of shopping at the Outlet Mall. Some errands completed. Lucy had a run at the Bark Park. Plus we went through a few model homes. No we’re not buying but it’s fun to see what they are building around us.

It’s always a challenge getting our girl ready to go. But once she gets there she has a great time. So many dogs to run with.

My knitting so far. I made it to the lace. The pattern is super simple. Great for traveling.

Now I’m going to beat dad at a game of cards and then bed. He’s making breakfast at 7:30. I need some sleep.

I had a visitor at 6 this morning. Dad let Lucy out and then she decided that she needed to see me. We had snuggles for about half an hour and then she had enough and left. I got up and started my day. I’m going to need a day off when I get home to sleep :)

Dad made eggs for breakfast (of course there was one for Lucy) and then they left for a walk. It is not warm here. Just above freezing this morning. No frost today but there was yesterday.

Flowers are starting to bloom.

We took Lucy to the better Bark Park today. As you will see, I’m spelling it wrong. And I didn’t know that was really the name. I thought dad made it up :)

It is beautiful.

Now I know why dad and Lucy like going.

Mr. Roko had his hair done today. He was getting very matted. Beth said he’s very happy and very soft.

When I got here dad had some pictures on the table that he found in mom’s office/sewing room. This is Beth and I with our pet bunny. We think it might be Easter Sunday. I’m not sure Beth will be happy that there is a picture out there of her in a dress. Beth is on the left and I am on the right. I had blond hair when I was little. Back in those days mom dressed us a like.

There wasn’t much knitting today. 3 rows. Now it’s bed time. We have another busy day planned tomorrow including golfing 9 holes. The weather is supposed to warm up. I promise that tomorrow’s post will be about knitting - I wrote it before I left :) I wanted to make sure that there was some knitting content while I am away.
