I'm working on a cowl with a String Quintet kit from Lorna's Laces. The pattern is the Three Color Cashmere Cowl from Joji.

From Joji
Oh, this is a lovely little pattern to let the days go by while peacefully knitting away…
There are no complex stitches in this cowl, just putting together some stripes, texture and lace as they suit you best.
The yarn I used was a bit of a luxury, just perfect to spoil yourself with something luscious around your neck

I'm adapting the pattern because my kit has five colours. So far I like how the the colours are coming out.

The yarn is great to knit with. I was dreading knitting on 3mm needles but it isn't bad at all. The pattern called for a 40cm circular but I'm using a 60cm circular and the stitches aren't stretched.

The pattern is easy to follow - Joji writes a great pattern and I highly recommend knitting one of her designs.
I've been looking at the kits and trying to decide which colour I would like to make next.

Diana just finished this awesome cowl.
Pattern: Rainbow Cowl (purchased on Ravelry)
Worked in the round from the top edge down, this cowl features a simple eyelet “raindrops” lace pattern and an openwork “sunray” lace pattern. It is finished with a picot bind-off.
Yarn: One Lorna's Laces String Quintet Kit - the colour here is Trumpet

If you'd like to try a Mystery KAL, Romi is starting one in March.
Welcome to my fourth mystery shawl KAL! This is a triangle using two colors of light sport weight yarn, 385 yards each.

The first clue will be released digitally on March 18. The KAL will have 5 clues total, each one week apart. After the KAL is over, your mystery pattern will update to the full pattern. After the mystery KAL is finished and the pattern is released as a full pdf, the cost of the completed pattern will increase to $6.50.
See all of Romi's patterns - she designs amazing shawls.

It's knitting time. My cowl is calling my name.

The Baby Cashmerino Tonals from Debbie Bliss have arrived. The colours looked great in the pictures I showed last week but they are so much better in person.

This morning I saw my sales rep for Debbie Bliss yarns and there are more new yarns coming in a few weeks.

Cotton Denim DK
100% cotton
200m on a 100 gram ball
22 stitches = 4" on 4mm needles

A pattern book is coming for the Denim DK but I have a different pattern in my head for it.

The Churchmouse Easy Fold Poncho will look great in the Denim DK.

Rialto Luxury Sock

There won't be much knitting tonight. Our good friend is visiting from England and is staying with us. He is a very particular about food so it's dinner at the Keg. YUMMY!

Customers are always asking me if I knit my socks toe up or top down. Magic Loop? Double pointed needles? I don't normally knit socks. I can (top down on double pointed needles) but I wear shoes that won't show off my socks. And I'm in a sweater or shawl every day in the store so I need to spend my time knitting those. But I love sock yarn. The colours are amazing. I haven't met many sock yarns that I didn't like :)
There will be a new Opal sock yarn coming in March.
This collection offers a variety of choices for each and every sweet fanatic. Sweet fruit nougat, sour fruit gums or spicy black cumin, these eight breathtaking colors, there is no way you could miss a flavor.
If I was going to knit socks that self pattern I would definitely choose Opal to knit with. Their colours are amazing. And they are the original printed sock yarn. Beth has many pairs of socks knit in Opal and she throws them in the washing machine and dryer. You don't need to look after these socks.

As I was writing an email came through from Sarah at Fiberstory. She should be sending us yarn next week (Fave Sock and Gradient kits) and it should be here the second week of March.
Meadow
A 100% SUPERWASH merino, springy 2 ply with a tight twist and the look of a cabled yarn.
366m / 400 yards
100 gram skein

Sweetly
Daybreak
Winterberry (this is shown on a different yarn base but I wanted to share the awesome colour)

This pattern is called the Crosshatch Cowl (a free pattern) from The Purl Bee.

Sarah made the following modifications to the pattern to work with the gradient kits.
In order to use the gradient kit most effectively, I used the following modifications:
Cast on 372 sts with darkest color in gradient. (would obviously work starting with the lightest color, as well!
color 1: Work 5 rounds in pattern
colors 2-6: Work 6 rounds.
color 7: Work 5 rounds.
Bind off in pattern.
The cast on and bind off rows are counted as the 6th round for the lightest and darkest colors, making each band of color approximately 6 rows wide.
Sarah used an 8mm needle.

It's almost home time and I will be knitting with sock yarn tonight. Shepherd Sock from Lorna's Laces. This is a great yarn to knit with. I'm past the half way point on my 3-Color Cashmere Cowl and my goal is to be finished by the weekend. Then I'm going to pull out my half finished shawl in Fave sock so it can be hanging in the store when the yarn arrives.

Way, way too cute scarves

My blog post for today was written but it's been set aside for another day.

Kit includes yarn and pattern, as well as pre-made bear arms, legs, and face--just knit the scarf, sew on and wear!
I don't think these scarves could be any cuter. The kits are $45 and we have them in the store.

Each ball includes a blanket pattern, and a stuffed animal head to sew on.
These kits are $30 and we have them in the store.

Buttons arrived today as well.

These are 24mm and we have 7 colours.

These are 12mm - great for baby garments. 8 different colours came in the box.

The flowers are 30mm and we have 6 colours.

Now I want to knit something summery so that I can use some of the new buttons.

It feels more like winter today in Ancaster. The temperature isn't cold but it's been snowing all day.
We haven't seen much snow this winter and it's very pretty outside today.

A new yarn will be arriving next week from Classic Elite.

Summery shades with a tone-on-tone dye effect. The same wonderful drape and fabulous fiber combination as self-striping Bella Lino.
58% Linen, 26% Viscose, 16% Cotton
20-22 stitches = 4"
50garm ball
150m (164 yards)

There will be a patterns available for the yarn and you can purchase them individually on Ravelry. This is the first to be released and the rest will be there next week.

This pattern is called Francine.
A simple top worked in four rectangles of bias garter stitch.

Last summer many customers knit Among the Wildflowers, a kerchief in Bella Lino. Now you can make it again in new colours.

This cowl is a great summer accessory for when you want to wear something knitted, but it is just too hot! It looks like a kerchief, but because of the round construction, you won’t spend extra time adjusting it, or taking it off and on because it adds too many layers.

Some of you aren't quite ready yet for spring. We are marking down our stock of chunky yarns from Misti Alpaca. We have hand-painted (regular $31.99 a skein) and solid colours (regular $21.99 a skein). 30% off while supplies last.
100% Baby Alpaca
100m (109 yards), 100 gram hank, 2 Ply Chunky Weight, 3 1/2 sts per inch, needle 6mm (US#10)

Misti Hand Paint Chunky is crafted in our own "dyed to the stitch" technique using 100's of colors in each colorway. The end result is a beautiful painted "canvas" of knit art.
Beth has knit quite a few cowls with the chunky. Here is one that uses a hand paint and solid.
Pattern: Autumn Basket (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: 2 skeins of Misti Chunky - 1 solid and 1 hand-paint

I'm home and getting ready to hit Publish so that I can get to my 3-Color Cashmere Cowl. I'm on the last section. It should be finished by the end of the weekend.

Right now I'm working on her 3-Color Cashmere Cowl. I took it outside for pictures but it is really windy out there.
I've also knit her pattern Ley Lines. I liked it so much that I did it twice.

You can see all of Joji's patterns here...

As I was scrolling through the list I found another one that I have knit.
Holi Party in tosh ASAP
This is Imagine When.

If you have a chance to make one of her patterns, I recommend that you do. You won't be disappointed.

Come Frolic with Us

Lynn started asking about the Frolic yesterday. What are we taking??? I told her it was only February and we have lots of time but Tuesday is March 1 and we don't have that much time. I started looking through pictures of our past few shows to get display ideas.
The gang should be back together for the Frolic but what are they going to wear? We need to start thinking about that too.
We're busy knitting samples and placing orders. I'm excited about the plan for the booth so far. Of course that can change many times between now and April 30.

This picture is just a teaser for some products that should be in the store by the middle of March. I'll have more details later in the week.

There wasn't much knitting today. I did finish the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl and I've picked up ZickZack. Pictures tomorrow.

The Calm before the Storm

We haven't had much snow in Southern Ontario this winter but it looks like we might be seeing some tomorrow afternoon. It's super windy out right now (I took a friend outside to get pictures and it was hard keeping a scarf on her) and they are saying 15-30cm of snow tomorrow. YUCK!

The 3-Color Cashmere Cowl is finished. Almost. I cast off last night and need to block and sew in the ends.
ZickZack came out to play. I'm a the halfway point. Lynda is knitting another one for the store and she is casting on less stitches for a narrower, longer scarf.

We have new colours of Noro Tokonatsu.

40% cotton
30% silk
30% viscose

125 m on a 50gram ball

Patterns are available in the book Jewels by Claudia Wersing.

The plan was to have my post finished earlier in the evening but I have been knitting on ZickZack. I forgot how addictive it is. You need to keep going to see what colour is coming next. Sure you can pull some yarn out of the ball but it isn't the same as seeing it knit. And the pattern is easy to memorize. If you can count to five then you can make the scarf.

Mr. Canada Post dropped by this morning with lots of boxes. The first had Zauberball Crazy and a different version of Zauberball called 100.

More colours were ordered and hopefully we'll see those in a few weeks.

There were also two huge boxes from Classic Elite

Fortuna is here and the colours are amazing. The Fortuna pattern book (or individual leaflets) are available for purchase on Ravelry.

The Diagonal Summer Scarf was in a Web-Letter from Classic Elite last summer. This would also look great in three or four colours of Fortuna.
This simple, reversible scarf shows the incredible colors of Bella Lino. Instructions are written to easily customize the width and length. Work your scarf in one color or many – since all Bella Lino shades have a flax-colored base, contrasting colors will blend beautifully (the scarf shown uses four different colors)
Download the pattern...
Cathy used 4 different colours for her scarf. There are so many great colours of Fortuna that it might be hard narrowing it down to 3 or 4. If I knit really fast on my ZickZack scarf then maybe I can cast on with Fortuna very soon. I really need 4 arms and then I could knit a lot faster.

It's Knitting Time

The Debbie Bliss Rialto Luxury Sock looks very pretty in it's basket. I've already sent balls to Wannietta so that she can make a scarf - ZickZack.
The colours of Fortuna are yummy.
Wasp (pattern purchased on Ravelry) would look really, really good knit in Fortuna.
Talulah (also available on Ravelry) is the sweater version. The mitred side panels on both the cardigan and sweater give great shaping.

The Bella Lino Wrap (free from Classic Elite) is easy to knit and would look great in Fortuna.

Georgia (purchased on Ravelry) is another shawl that you can make with Fortuna.

It's almost Survivor (knitting) time. Another interesting season of Brawn vs Beauty vs Brains. With the way things are going they are going to need to switch things up soon. The Brawn tribe might be eliminated soon.

Before I go - another sneak peek of something coming later this month.

Knitting blogsLynn emailed last night very excited. My blog is in the Top 100 Knitting Blogs.
Are you presently scouring the web looking for inspirational knitting patterns,  creative knitting designs, yarn information, or book reviews? We have selected the 100 best knitting and crocheting blogs for you to explore in your quest for the best patterns and techniques on offer. These blogs are ranked high by google, actively updated and their posts are shared extensively on social networks.

Knitting Blogs are a great way to become involved in the knitting community. Knitting blogs are where knitters share their knitting projects, additions to their yarn stashes, struggles with techniques, and their everyday lives. Cultivating a collection of knitting blogs to read is like having an online knitting group. Better knitting blogs feature regular updates, frequent use of photography, and try to connect with current trends and events.

The Crazy Magic Boomerang (pattern purchased on Ravelry) was knit last fall in Noro Silk Garden Sock. I was scrolling through my pictures last night and it hit me. This pattern would work great for the new Zauberball Crazy, Zauberball 100 and Debbie Bliss Rialto Luxury Sock. Two balls will make a shawl this size.

There are 3 patterns in the Crazy Magic Collection that all work very well with self-striping yarns.

While writing I decided that this is going to be our next KAL. Any of the three Crazy Magic patterns. I'm going to work on prizes and details this afternoon and will post tomorrow. I'm excited because if I'm doing a KAL then I need to make one as well.

House of Cards

It could be a late evening tonight. Season 4 of House of Cards is now available. I won't write anything about the show in case you haven't started watching. It does mean lots of knitting but it might have to be an easy project so that I can pay attention.

Of course I started working on the Crazy Magic Boomerang last night. I'm using Zauberball 100 in colour 1699.

The pattern isn't hard and it is well written but I was having issues last night. I kept missing a K2 and would get to the end of the row and my stitches were out. No, I didn't use stitch markers and I might suggest that you add them at least for the first 20 rows or so. Once you can see the pattern then remove them. Or keep them on as a safety net.

Beth had dinner started when I got home. We've eaten. The kitchen is clean. Laundry is in. It's TV time.

Seeder

Wannietta knit a vest for the store called Seeder out of Noro Kureyon. The pattern is in the book Tribute to Noro by Claudia Wersing. Lynn looks scared here. Or maybe cold. We took these pictures a few weeks ago when it was freezing here.
You can wear the vest many different ways.

And it's always fun to knit in Noro. The colours are bright and keep changing. You don't get bored.

House of Cards didn't start last night. We have a bad habit of watching an episode and then saying, "One more" which usually means two or three more and then it's 4am. I thought it was best that wake up and open the store this morning.

I watched a cool video on Facebook this morning. When your pattern says Knit 5 together, there is a moment of panic. How am I going to get my needle through all the stitches at once? And what if you are a tight knitter? There is no way. Watch this video and you'll never worry again.

Lazy Sunday

It was a lazy Sunday with lots of knitting. And there will be more tonight. The colour gradations in the Zauberball 100 are great.

Lynn read through my pattern for the Crazy Magic Boomerang yesterday and commented on how well written it was. It's a great train, bus, March Break project. Take a look in your stash - I have a feeling that you might have a yarn that will work. It doesn't have to be self-striping. Hand dyed yarn will look great too.

What a beautiful day. It's sunny and warm. You can't help but smile when you're outside.

This morning was spent adding to the website. We now have a section of notions that I will be adding to. This was long overdue.

I was prompted to do this because we have a special shipment coming from the US that should be arriving in about a week and a half. Once they arrive we will have them live on the website.

The Crazy Magic Boomerang is growing. I'm also working on the Liberty Mighty Miters Throw at the same time.

Beth called me this afternoon and asked what I'm doing for the next few days. There was nothing important planned. Why? Flights to Myrtle Beach were cheap so I'm off tomorrow night. I'll be there for a few days by myself and then mom and dad arrive Friday night. I'll have their house full of groceries and dinner ready for them. They might expect that treatment from now on. I don't need to pack much. I have clothes there. Toiletries are there. I need my makeup. Computer. iPad. Headphones. Knitting. That is the problem. I need two balls of Zauberball 100 for my Boomerang but I sold the second ball. I'm take the shawl and going as far as I can. Then I have another partly finished shawl packed that was started on a previous trip to Myrtle. I'll be back in the store on Tuesday but will be checking emails while I'm away. We will still be shipping as well. Lynn and Beth will get the parcels to the post office. The only bad thing about going this week is that the weather here is going to be great. The mustang could come out and play. Actually, it probably will come out to play - Beth will be driving it.

Stitch Markers

My plane was supposed to leave Niagara Falls at 6pm but it was closer to 7:15. By the time we landed in Myrtle, I took a cab to the house, got the truck and ran to the grocery store and picked up dinner it was way too late to sit down and write.

There was some knitting done in the airport and on the plane. The flight attendants always comment that they want what I'm knitting as I get off the plane.
I tried getting better pictures but the sun is shining and there is an awful shadow.

Flowers are blooming.

I forgot markers. UGH! I will be bringing down some funky ones to leave here on my next trip.

I've been tracking the Cocoknits shipment online and it isn't moving quick enough for my liking. Hurry.
NEWLY IMPROVED, NOW WITH DOUBLE COAT OF PAINT.  These colorful opening stitch markers help you mark rounds, increases, decreases, and stitch patterns. Easily add or move the markers by putting them on your needle, crochet hook, or directly on stitches. These steel markers attach to your Knitter's Keep or any magnet so that you can easily store and retrieve them. Stitch markers accommodate up to US 11 needle. Included are 10 each of 6 muted colors.

 The packaging is so cute.

Losing your stitch markers? These assorted nickel markers attach to your Knitter's Keep or any magnet so that you can easily store and retrieve them. Use them to mark rounds, increases, decreases, and stitch patterns. Included are 20 each of three sizes.
  • 20 large round stitch markers (accommodate US 15 / 10 mm needles or smaller)
  • 20 small round stitch markers (accommodate US 9 / 5.5 mm needles or smaller)
  • 20 opening stitch markers (accommodate US 11 / 8 mm needles or smaller)
These ring stitch markers are brightly colored and easily seen when marking rounds, increases, decreases, and stitch patterns. Made of nylon coated steel, these markers attach to your Knitter's Keep or any magnet so that you can easily store and retrieve them. Stitch markers accommodate up to US 13 needle. Included are 10 each of 6 colors.
It's a beautiful day and I should be outside but I'm waiting for the air conditioner repair man. He said half an hour. The only question - is that half an hour my time or Myrtle Beach time which could mean two hours.

Progressing

My knitting is growing but not fast enough for my liking. I love how the colours are progressing.

Beth sent this picture. It looks like nice weather at home. And someone is having fun with his new toys.

Mom and dad made it safely. I'm back at my house for some knitting and then bed. Dad is making breakfast in the morning and then we might play a round of golf.

Shawl Pins and Leather Closures

I ordered some great accessories from JUL while I was at TNNA in January. I received an email yesterday that they are being shipped. Hopefully we'll see these late next week.
Sweet Pea Vine Shawl Pin
White bronze with rosewood stick
1.5 inches inside diameter, 2.25 inches outside
This beautiful shawl pin is made here in the USA in a small casting house in New Mexico based on the meandering form of the Sweet Pea.
Lotus Garden Shawl Pin
White Brass
Handmade Fair Trade in Indonesia
This gorgeously delicate and light shawl pin evokes the zen of a lotus garden - its roots, its stems, and its flowers, leaves, and seed pods.
Wear the calm of this lotus garden shawl pin and imagine the exquisite and virtually indescribable perfume of the lotus blossoms with their translucent pink petals swaying above subtly conical leaves that turn beads of water into glittering quicksilver.
Coil Shawl Pin
Made Fair Trade in Indonesia
Cast and hand-polished in white brass
Ring 1.25" inside diameter
Stick 4.5" in length
The Coil Shawl Pin is elegant and sleek, with a timeless design that is at once ancient and contemporary.
Wild Grape Tendril Shawl Pin
Made Fair Trade in Indonesia
Cast and hand-finished in White Brass
Shawl Pin includes the ring and the small stick on the left.  The Stick on the right is sold separately.
Ring 2.5" tall x 1.25" wide
The tendrils of grapes or peas are natures spirals.
Matisse's Hinge Leather Screw-in Closure
Made in the USA
100% Genuine Leather
5.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall
This is Strata (pattern purchased on Ravelry) showcasing the closure.

Lock Toggle Leather Closure
Made in the USA
Genuine leather
2.25" wide x 1.75" tall
This leather closure screws into knitted, crocheted, handwoven, and sewn garments making it removable for laundering and a striking alternative to conventional toggles, buttons, and frogs.  The leather makes the closure relatively light considering the size of the Lock and its sibling screw-in snap closures. The tongue on one side of the Lock comes up through the slot in the other side, doubles back on itself and 'locks' in place with a snap, making it extremely secure.
Mod Loop Leather Closure
Made in the USA
Genuine leather, Screw-in closure with snaps
4" wide x 1.75" tall
Make the fantastic possible with your garments and accessories everyday by using the Mod Loop in myriad ways.  The Mod Loop, like other JUL screw-in snap closures, screws directly into the garment, the threaded cylinder positioned between stitches with a backing on it on the wrong side of the fabric and a screw securing the Mod Loop on the front and the backing disk on the back.  The 'tongue' of the closure snaps onto itself after it comes up through the Mod Loop.
You're Beautiful (purchased on Ravelry) looks great with the leather closure.

The great thing about the leather closures is that they are removable so you can take them from one scarf/shawl and put them on another. They also work great instead of buttons on a coat.
This is a free pattern from JUL showing the closures...

The Ridgeline Wrap is a pattern that you can purchase on Ravelry...

Today was beautiful in Myrtle Beach so Dad and I played 9 holes this afternoon. I'm glad that we went out. It was great to be in the sun. This meant not much knitting today. And I'm really tired. It's bed time soon.

Five Crowns

It was a great day in Myrtle with my parents. Breakfast out at Cracker Barrel is a tradition on Sunday mornings. I came home to finish my shawl and then went to their house to watch golf with dad. We had dinner out and then played cards. Someone introduced them to Five Crowns and they are addicted. They play every evening. Anywhere from two to eight can play. (Here is a website that describes the game) It was a lot of fun and if you like cards you will like this game. Dad won. Mom lost. She was pouting when I left to come home.
The sunset from their back yard.
My shawl is finished. I decided to stop at one ball. This way we can show how big it is and if you want it bigger you can used two balls.

Laundry is in. The house is mostly clean. I'm packed and it's time to knit. Of course I have another project with me.
