Knitting Love

Outline is totally finished including blocking. The Skinny Singles from Hedgehog Fibres block beautifully.

Blocking doesn't have to be a lot of work. I'm a lazy blocker. I soaked the shawl in Soak for about 15 minutes. I drained the sink and gently pushed on the shawl to remove the excess water. I rolled it in a towel for an hour to get out most of the water out. Then I laid it out on a fresh towel. I didn't pin it. At the beginning you need to change the towel fairly often because it can get pretty wet but as the shawl starts to dry you can change the towel less frequently. It took about 30 hours to dry.
I love the shawl so much that there are four skeins at home waiting to be wound. I'm making another one.
While this was drying I finished Hitchhiker. I love this one too.

While I was winding skeins of Skinny Singles, I was soaking Hitchhiker in the new Pineapple Grove Soak. I am in love. The laundry room smells amazing. My sewing room smells amazing!!

I totally forgot to change the blog and Facebook to say that we are open on Mondays again.

Our hours until the end of March are

Monday - Thursday 10-5:30
Friday noon-7
Saturday 10-4
Sunday Closed

I wound skeins of Hedgehog last night and have cast on anther Outline. It was very hard to set it down at 11 last night and go to bed.

The van is packed so tonight is about laundry and finding clothes that I am going to wear this weekend.
Door prizes and clothes are covering the table waiting to be packed in the morning.

There wasn't enough knitting tonight to warrant pictures. Hopefully tomorrow there will be time to sit by the lake and knit.

Let the games begin

Fiona arrived at Camp in style this afternoon.
The lake was very quiet we when got here. It's good to be back. The van is unloaded and we're ready to set up a yarn store tomorrow. The goodie bags are finished. Wow. Our suppliers are awesome.
Now a bit of knitting and then a good nights sleep.

It was beautiful this morning. Knitting outside would have been fun but I was setting up the yarn shop.

The yarn shop is ready to go and now I'm waiting for the Campers to arrive.
I think they are going to like their goodie bags.

This is how to arrive at Camp. Nancy and Lorna sat in the back seat and knit while Wayne drove them. Then he unloaded the car. Lucky ladies.
Sally's students were very attentive this morning.
We had the fashion show after dinner last night and I totally forgot to finish my post. It's Saturday morning and fall has hit. It was 4C here. Sweater weather. The lake was very pretty.
The ladies are in class. I sat in on the first 10 minutes of Sally's class and learned a lot. Fiona is teaching cables and I'm heading to hear her great cable tips.

Evening of Fun

Saturday night is our student fashion show. The ladies always bring amazing projects to show off.

Kate Atherley taught at Camp last year. Both Janet and Julie bought the kit to make her Rosetta Tharpe and last night we saw the finished shawls.

I was busy oohing and aahig with the rest of the room. I missed pictures of a lot of the garments but here are a few that I did get.

Thanks to all the Campers for another great weekend. We had a lot of laughs and I'm pretty sure that everyone learned something during their workshops.

My first load of laundry is in. The suitcase isn't going upstairs because it's being repacked. I'm leaving Tuesday evening for a few days of rest. Now I need to pick out my airplane project.

Outline Take 2

There was a bit of knitting at Camp. Here is Outline. I loved knitting the first one and started playing with a totally different colour scheme.

This isn't the best plane knitting. There are five 100 grams skeins - that takes up a lot of room in my carry on bag. There is room in my suitcase so it will come along. Instead I've picked this.

A SweetGeorgia Party of Five to make another Hitchhiker. I wore mine all weekend at Camp and love it. I'm starting with the purple and working to lime.

Speaking of Hitchhiker, here is Sarah's. She's almost finished the fourth colour. I can't wait until the Fleece Festival. We are going to look sharp in our scarves.

The Woodstock Fleece Festival is a great show. Knitting, weaving, spinning, dying, rug hooking, felting and animals. I've been told that the lunch served at the show is really, really good. We love doing this show. The weather has started to get cold and it feels like knitting weather.

Now it's time to finish packing. Who am I kidding? There will be time for that tomorrow. I'm going to knit. :)

Hello from Vegas

We have a new addition at the store. A very cute storage shed. Now we have somewhere for all our show displays and extra storage for boxes and non yarn items. Now to decide on the colour. Beth thinks that we are going to paint it ourselves. I'll let her mull that over for a bit before I have someone come in and do it properly.
My flight was great. No turbulence. We left early and we had great tail winds - our flight time was 1/2 hour less than normal. You can't really ask for anything more than that. I did a bit of knitting.
This is from my hotel room. The pool is looking inviting.
I walked through the Forum Shops this morning. There are a lot of hand knits in the windows. Including some very high end stores.
I'm back in the room for a rest. Maybe a nap before the Jays game tonight.

Having fun in Vegas

It's not a trip to Vegas without visiting the Conservatory at The Bellagio.
I'm in the room writing while my phone charges. I had the post finished and then something went wrong and it was gone. Take two.

After the Conservatory I took the tram to Aria.
This window display is amazing. It looks good enough to eat - all chocolate and sugar.
Tonight is going to be an early evening. The Ryder Cup starts tomorrow. 8:30am at home which is 5:30 here. I'm not sure I'll be up that early but I could be out of bed before the sun rises. There is a stack of paperwork sitting in front of me. I'll type and watch. And knit. My shawl is growing.
I made it to the next colour. Now it's time to head downstairs for dinner. And watch football, baseball and hockey.

I did a few rows last night and this morning. I woke up later than expected this morning and went downstairs for breakfast. I considered room service for a few minutes. Then there was paperwork. Website updates that I've been putting off but they are done. This afternoon I had good intentions. Instead I napped for 3 hours.
The colours don't grade on this one but I think the finished look is going to be good. The next colour is a brighter blue. Then teal and I finish with lime.
Sarah is almost finished. I might need to do her colours next. It is a Party of Five kit in the colourway Swell.
Mom sent this picture as dad and I were driving to the airport. Lucy got herself stuck under the bed looking for a ball. Mom had to pull her out.
Beth sent this tonight. She was Lucy sitting. Her caption "I don't want Lucy to go to Myrtle Beach". I don't think she has a choice. I love going away but it will be good getting home tomorrow night. I miss having a dog sleep in bed with me.

It's good to be home

Everything went according to plan today. My flight was good and dad was waiting in Toronto for me. Beth had dinner ready for me when I got home. The Jays are currently winning.
Beth was busy while I was away. She's doing another Crazy scarf. This one is really, really bright.
I knit a bit on the plane. There would have been more knitting but I messed up during take off. I forgot to cast off five stitches at the beginning of a row. Two rows were ripped out and I'm back on track. Now it's bed time. I can't keep my eyes open.

Happy Birthday Roko

Our little boy turns 10 today.
I went back through the blog to find puppy pictures. Wow, I've been blogging for over 10 years. That's a lot of blog posts.

While watching golf, football and baseball I managed a few rows on Outline.

I'm going to finish my tea, knit a few more rows and then head to bed. It's back to work tomorrow.

Building Blocks

Are you ready?

Sign up by purchasing the pattern. You will receive an introductory PDF for the KAL. Download this PDF into your Ravelry library and you will receive the first section of the pattern October 7. Each following Friday you will receive the next section of the pattern until the final mystery shawl is revealed!

There is a FAQ page for the KAL...

Here are two items that I think are important.
Is this project suitable for beginners?
This shawl is appropriate for adventurous beginners (know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, and read a pattern) and it will be enjoyable for seasoned knitters too. There is so much support throughout the KAL so you will find a lot of help and tips on completing each section in this Ravelry group. There will be photo tutorials and videos where they are necessary to assist you with visualizing the techniques and construction.
Is gauge important?
For this year’s Building Blocks Mystery Shawl I prefer a tighter more crisp gauge than many of my other shawls.

26 sts & 44 rows 4” / 10cm in garter stitch (un-blocked)
26 sts & 36 rows 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch (un-blocked)

The fabric looks best if the stitches are tidy and crisp instead of loose and sloppy. Aim for a crisp uniform fabric close to the recommended gauge, but don’t create a fabric that feels too stiff like cardboard.

If you are using a regular fingering weight yarn try swatching with a smaller needle size first. I usually select a US 5 or 6 / 3.75 or 4mm needle with regular fingering weight yarn like Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn, but for this design I would go down to US 4 / 3.5mm needle to get more crisp stitch definition.
I brought home a bag of tosh merino light to play with colours.

I'm going to use
Dr Zhivago's Sky
Weathered Frame
First Light
Silver Fox

Now to try and convince Beth that she would like to wind the skeins for me :)

It's going to be the shortest post ever. The game is tied in the bottom of the 8th and I need to get back to the TV. Go Jays Go!
There has been a bit of knitting. Between biting my nails.
I love fall and the leaves changing.

Now back to the game. Top of the 9th.

Light as a cloud

We have a new shawl in the store.
Pattern: Alinda Wrap (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: 2 skeins of Mrs. Crosby Reticule
Light as a cloud, Alinda is a large, lace weight wrap. Designed to be worn wrapped several times around, with tapered ends to tie or dangle in front. Knit it up in your favourite bright or neutral colour, this easy to wear wrap is sure to be a year-round wardrobe favourite.
Interesting construction gives this shawl a modern edge with a subtle Chevron eyelet patterning tapering to the final point.
I love it. The shawl is huge and it is super, super light.

Cathy dropped by today with her Hitchhiker. It looks great.
She used a Cheshire Cat mini skein kit from Frabjous Fibers and 3.5mm needles. Now I need Mr. Canada Post to hurry with a box from Frabjous Fibers. We sold all the kits in this colour at Camp and I need more for the Fleece Festival.

Yes, I'm tired today. It was a late night and thankfully the outcome was good. I decided to write early today. Then I don't have pressure tonight to write while I'm watching the National League game.

Someone isn't happy. She was spayed yesterday. Now we have to keep her quiet for the next week. Life has been pretty good for Lucy until yesterday and she let everyone know it - she cried all day. She is playing up the 'poor me' for all it's worth.

Vertices

My Hitchhiker is growing. I finally made it to the third colour.
I should get some knitting accomplished tonight watching baseball and football.
Alex brought in her latest project to show off. A fun design from Stephen West. I love the size of the shawl. Add another one to my 'to knit' list. :)

Pattern: Vertices Unite (pattern purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: 4 skeins of Hedgehog Skinny Singles

Vertices Unite is a playful geometric shawl exploration filled with fun shaping techniques and lots of color. Increases, decreases, and short rows form the simple shapes. Each section is picked up and knit from the last section or worked as it is being joined to the other pieces like a puzzle so it is completely seamless. An I-cord border adds a crisp outline to the finished shawl. Grab a collection of fingering weight yarns and choose the sweet small size or a lusciously large wrap.
Our next shipment of Hedgehog Skinny Singles should be here by the end of the month and will include

The first clue for Building Blocks was in my Ravelry library when I woke up this morning. I wound colours A and B but there wasn't much knitting on it today. I won't show any pictures for a few days - that way I won't ruin the mystery.

Rowan has put some free patterns on Ravelry. This great men's sweater (that a lady can wear) was designed by Martin Storey.
    Pattern: Latham (free on Ravelry)
The yarn is Hemp Tweed Chunky. We are waiting to find out when it will be arriving.

My other projects are growing. I need to finish Hitchhiker this weekend so I can block it and have it ready for the Woodstock Fleece Festival.

Matthew has decided to visit Myrtle Beach this weekend. Right now they are saying 14" of rain. Our house is inland which is a good thing in some ways. We are surrounded by trees which can be bad if the winds are really strong. There isn't anything we can do and I keep telling myself that it is just a house. If there is damage we'll have it fixed. Hopefully everyone is safe.

Marie Wallin's book Springtime is back in stock.
Springtime is a collection of 8 beautiful designs by Marie Wallin. The collection features Marie's signature style colourwork pieces along side elegant cabled garments. The collection features Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze and would be suitable for the more experienced knitter.

The Eccentric Chevron Wrap was a big hit at Camp. All colourways are back in stock.
Designed to dip gracefully in the back, the Prism Eccentric Chevron Wrap sits comfortably on your shoulders.

The kit comes with all the Merino Mia yarn you'll need to make the wrap (6 - 190-yard skeins in assorted variegated colors), and the Eccentric Chevron Wrap pattern. Prism Merino Mia is absolutely stunning. This machine-washable, hand-dyed yarn is 100% merino superwash
I made it to the 4th colour on my Hitchhiker. I need to get as much knitting accomplished tonight as possible. Tomorrow is going to be busy. Football. Baseball. Nascar. Thanksgiving dinner.

    Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you are enjoying your day with family, friends and yarn.

The trees behind our house look amazing. This is what I see when I'm sitting at the kitchen counter working on my computer.

Classic Elite has reknit their popular Color Block Bias Wrap (pattern purchased on Ravelry).
A boldly graphic wrap that’s as right for day as night. Scrunch it for a scarf or wear it wide for maximum impact.
There are three different yarns that can be used for this shawl - Chalet, Chateau and Palace.
Chainette yarns are well-deserving of their popularity...the construction simultaneously provides strength and lightness. Add a luxury fiber blend of baby alpaca and bamboo to that inherent lightness and you have Chalet, a decadently soft yarn with a lovely drape in a chunky weight from our MountainTop Collection of yarns spun from natural, undyed fibers. Chateau is Chalet's colorful cousin, available in saturated, vibrant colors.
On-trend soft and pastel colors show the subtle tweed component of this sister yarn to Chalet and Chateau. The same wonderful fiber and chainette construction will work together in stripes and colorblocks with Chalet and Chateau.

I have this wrap in two greys and a purple. I need to pull it out. It appears that the cold weather is coming. We have a frost warning tonight. YIKES!!
